Ask a Coach: I’m worried that I’m going to fall off track this holiday season after all of the hard work I’ve put in this year. What should I do?”
You’ve come far in your journey this year. It’s important to acknowledge the work that you’ve put into living a healthier life. Here’s an exercise to help you think about how the skills and tools you’ve gained can help you cope with challenges the holiday season brings this year.
Here’s a suggestion. On a piece of paper (or just in your head), write down the obstacles to healthy living you’ve faced during past holidays. Then, write a sentence for each challenge starting with the word “before,” and another with the word “now.” For example, “Before, I was not able to stop at one serving when eating with my family.” And then, “Now I am tuning into my hunger gauge and can stop when I’m satisfied.”
Do this with as many scenarios as you need to. There is no need to create strict rules to get through the holidays. You already have healthy habits in place. Approach the holidays knowing you have the tools you need to get through challenges, both big and small.
