Today, we are featuring Donna. She is a Training Supervisor at Securitas, where she’s worked for the past 13 years. When she shared a little bit of her story with us, we knew we had to chat with her and learn more:
“When I first started this new journey in my life with diabetes, I was a mess. I didn’t know how I was going to handle this. I was so stressed all the time. Then a [Livongo] coach named Michelle came into my life and showed me I am not alone and she was here to help.
Through Michelle, I have learned how to eat better, I now exercise, and I am walking more. Now we are talking about high BGs and low BGs and what to do when they happen. I really enjoy working Michelle: She inspires me to do the things I need to do. I don’t know where I would be without coaching. I cannot thank her enough.”
Livongo: Can you tell us a bit about your journey with diabetes?
Donna: When I first heard about it, I was scared. My blood glucose was all over the place, and I wasn’t getting the treatment I needed, so I changed doctors. One day, I got a paper in the mail offering the Livongo for Diabetes program. I joined right before Christmas of 2018. I didn’t think the experience would be like this.
Livongo: What would you like others at Securitas to know about Livongo for Diabetes?
Donna: It’s a very good program! I just can’t express enough how Michelle has changed my life, being my coach, and helping me through this and change my ways. I don’t know where I would be without her. Michelle helps me understand things I should do, she sends me recipes. I now walk more, because she explained to me how exercise helps with blood glucose levels. And the program has helped me not only physically and mentally, but also financially, by getting free testing supplies.
Livongo: What is the hardest thing about living with type 2 diabetes?
Donna: Getting used to it. Learning about it, changing your life in order to help yourself. It helps having people like my partner, whom I walk with, close to me, but I would have done it with or without him. Michelle opened up my eyes: She made me realize I need to help myself.
Livongo: Any closing thoughts?
Donna: I would just like to say thank you to ALL of you at Livongo who are working with people like me, to deal with diabetes, to live the right way. I want to help get more people to sign up for Livongo for Diabetes!
